Red Scorpions Severin Loth & Honor Guard

While I was also painting the Raven Guard that I recently posted I was also working on these guys. The Red Scorpions are one my favorite chapters and I once owned a full painted army, which I parted with to a good friend of mine. Well after seeing these models, he just had to have them to add them to my former army. And I must say they will make a great addition. The pieces that you get with this set are amazing and very detailed. The four torso really help to make the unit stand out from the rest and with the shoulder pads really it gives it that look of Power and Authority. The unit can be put together in many different ways and you can easily add an apothecary to fill the unit out and use it as a Command squad. I also added in some Brass etch.
The Severin Loth model is just utterly amazing. In my opinion it is probably one of the best looking librarians ever produced for the game of Warhammer 40k. The model is torso, legs and head are all one piece and  the arms and pads are separate. I imagine you could pose them in a different manner if you wanted to. Also the model could easily be converted to be used in a different army. The painting on Severin is pretty straight forward, nothing special. The only thing I really changed was the color of the knee pads to help tie in with the honor guard. But overall I feel it came out pretty good.
As for the honor guard, I did my best to match the colors used in the army they are joining. I use Charadon Granite for the base color of the models. It appears to be quite close to that shown in the IA books. I use Iyanden Dark sun for the yellow, which I find is closer to the mustard color on there armor. The whole project turned out pretty good and will fit very nicely in the army they are joining. Next up, Red Scorpions Dreadnaought. Thanks to all my followers and keep visiting and telling your friends.

Red Scorpions 4th Company

Well the 1500pt list is finished and I am so proud of how they turned out. I 'll let the photos speak for themselves. Next chapter is already in progress. Till tomorrow.

Red Scorpions Project - A few models to go!

Well here is the last tactical squad to paint for my 1500 pt list, I am a lot further along then when the photo was taken. All I have left to paint on these bad boys is the packs and squad iconography, then it is time to paint up the last 4 terminators. Looks like the project will be done by next week some time. I will be posting a lot of pics of the entire army in it's finished state. Almost done, can't wait.

Red Scorpions Assault Squad

I decided to equip my sergeant with a powerfist and a storm sheild and also gave the squad 2 plasma pistols. These models turned out really well and I am especially happy with the jumpacks. I still have to paint on the RS symbol on the shoulder pads of a couple of them. Again all the bases are custom made. I will adding another squad when the list goes to 2000 pts. Till later.

Red Scorpions Tactical Squad and Scout Squad

These are the first two troops choices that I have finished for the RS army. I still have one 10 man tactical squad to finish for my troop choices. I am really pleased with how well they turned out. I hand painted on all of the squad markings and RS symbols, time consuming but well worth it. I will be adding another 10 man squad when this list jumps to 2000pts. Also all the bases are custom made except for a few of the models in the tact squad which came from the basing kit. Till tommorow.

Red Scorpions Predator

This is the third tank in my 1500 pt list, I choose to equip it with the autocannon and heavy bolters to help deal with infantry and also give a little extra punch. I am very happy with how well all three tanks turned out and can't wait to add a few more when the list jumps to 2000 pts.
I also picked up the RS brass etch at gamesday to give the tanks a little more RS feel. More to come tommorow.

More New Stuff!

This is my Red Scorpions Vindicator. All the symbols and scrolls are hand painted. I really enjoyed painting this tank and feel all the extra effort was well worth it. I am definitely looking forward to painting another one. Also I entered it this years golden demon.

Some New Stuff !

This is Lord High Commander Serok of the Red Scorpions. I entered it in the Golden Demon at GamesDay Toronto 08. It was a finalist in the Warhammer 40k single miniature. This model took me anywhere between 150 to 180 hours and try new types of painting techniques on it. I am very pleased with how it turned out. Probably my best one yet, also it won the golden demon warm-up at my local GW.

Red Scorpions Commander

This is one of my favorite models that I have finished recently. It came out really well and I am very pleased with how the banner turned out. I used the shoulder pads and helmet from the champion sprue, also I dremeled out the knees and added terminator bits to make the armour look like it was Artificer Armour. The sword is from the Mephiston model and the Banner is from the Command Squad box. This was the first model that I built and painted in my Red Sscorpions Army. There is also another Commander in Terminator Armour that I built for this years Golden Demon, Don't Miss It.

Red Scorpions Command Squad

I just finished these models at the end of May and entered them in the Golden Demon warm-up at my local GW and the unit placed 3rd, there is also a commander with the squad that I will showcase tommorow. The squad consists of a Sergeant, Champion, Apothecary, and 2 marines as well as a Commander (not shown). All the symbols and lettering are painted on freehand. I pretty much have mastered painting my version of the RS symbol. I choose to paint all the helmet white to represent that there all veterans and to help distiguish them from the rest. Also I added bits from all sorts of SM sprues. I reallly like the added touch of the term shield on there shoulder pads. There is a fair bit of conversion work done to the models and it would be a very long post if I did. Hope you all like them. Commander tommorow don't miss it.

Red Scorpions Champion

This is the Champion for my new Red Scorpions army I currently working on. It has been a slow process building and painting this model for my command squad. I decided to change up the original pose for the model by moving the arm down to make him look as if he was pointing toward the enemy. Also I choose to remove the normal closed fist on the right hand and replaced it with a sheild and added a forgeworld skull to it. The banner is from the SM Terminator sprue, I thought it added a nice little touch. All the symbols are painted on freehand.

Red Scorpions Predator

Over the past three weeks I have been hard at work doing commission assignments and haven't had much time to paint my WIP Red scorpions army. Since I have been working around the clock on my Golden Demon entries for this upcoming Gamesday on June 21. I thought it might be good to take a break from the slow methodical progress of such entries and paint up some of my Red Scorpions army by starting with this predator. I armed it with the Autocannon and Heavy Bolters, so other gamers don't feel threaten by it as much as if it was loaded up with Lascannons. Plus, it is good for anti infantry which is always a bonus. Hopefully I will have it completely painted in a couple weeks and get some pics up.

Vindicator Complete

Well it took two nights to build, but I got it done and now all that is left is to paint it. The dozerblade is not glued on and just placed for now, so I can paint it later. I decided to leave off the ammo carrier for the rear, I just didn't like the look of it. Also the cannon is actually movable when you normally put the model together but I decided to glue it one place. This might be my Gamesday entry for 40k large model, if I get it done in time. Time to paint.

Space Marine Vindicator Mk2 Build

So I bought a Vindicator about 3 weeks ago and finally decided to build it last night. Now for most of us putting together the basic rhino chassis is straight forward. When it came time to add the extra armour, just dont make the mistake of adding the doors to the chassis because the extra armour won't fit properly. Also I decided to keep the dozer blade unattached and paint it seperatly. So far I have the basic chassis and the extra armour on the model the next thing to do is build up the demolisher cannon and attach the extra bitz, as well as paint it which will be featured later.

Red Scorpions Razorback Project

Well I got a space marine battle force for christams and didnt get around to building it until about late january. The first thing I decide to build was the rhino that it came with and since my wife had bought me Imperial Armour 4, I knew that I wanted to build and paint my first codex chapter in almost 5 years. So to work I went building the rhino and then realized that since most of the models available for the red scorpions where forgeworld models and I want my rhino to be a forgeworld lascannan razorback, but without the money in my budget, it was time to scratchbuild the turret. Building the rhino was pretty straight forward no explaination needed.

When it came time to build the turret I used the phot on the forgeworld website as reference. It took multiple attempts to get the scale right but other then that cutting the plasticard was easy. Then I drilled a hole through the side of the body and pod of the turret and installed a brass rod, then I mounted the predator sponson lascannons (unmodified) on the end rod. I used the front of the tank scannner on the face of the pod. I cut the mounting disc from 1/8 plasticard using the original as a template and then cut a smaller disc and glued it to the bottom to have it fit into recess on the tank plate. The other bits are tau bits are from my scrapbox. The hardest part was gettin the pod and cannons to move together, but I did get to work. It actually moves up and down and in a 360 and is completly removable.

When it came time to paint it, I went with Red Scorpion colors and used Charadon Granite with Codex and Fortress Grey highlights and Iyanden DarkSun and Sunburst Yellow highlights. I mixed all the above colors to give a good subtle highlight. Also I used Boltgun Metal, Chainmail and Mythril silver for all the metallics. There is also some Chaos Black and Skull white. All the numbers and symbols are hand painted and not decals. I also painted the interior with great detail. The model took about 30 hours start to finish.
